Does only one thing (and doesn’t do it well).

So in the end, Evernote can do everything that iA Writer can do plus more, all while being cheeper and more flexible. It’s just not as pretty.

North Carolina DID NOT Ban Same Sex Marriage

I’m of tired of seeing so many people say that North Carolina banned same-sex marriage. The fact is, they didn’t. The successfully passed legislation does not stop people from pursuing any form of union they want with whom ever they want.

Huh? Then what’s all this commotion about?

The reality is North Carolina now only acknowledges opposite sex marriages as “the only domestic legal union”. It doesn’t ban people from getting any other type of union with whom ever they wish, “This section does not prohibit a private party from entering into contracts with another private party;” Contracts like civil unions, same-sex marriages and domestic partnerships are still available for anybody to have.

Here’s the new text added to North Carolina’s Constitution.

Sec. 6. Marriage.

Marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State. This section does not prohibit a private party from entering into contracts with another private party; nor does this section prohibit courts from adjudicating the rights of private parties pursuant to such contracts.

The state of North Carolina just doesn’t acknowledge any other type of documented cohabitation. None. So if you are straight and have a civil union with your opposite sex partner because you don’t want a traditional marriage for any reason, then your civil union is invalid under the eyes of the state of North Carolina.

Turns out this bill affects gay and straight people too.

In the end, you still can have a homosexual marriage in North Carolina, the state just doesn’t acknowledge it; The state doesn’t give it the same benefits of opposite sex marriages.

Let me end with an analogy: North Carolina says homo marriage is ok, but it only gives benefits to hetro marriages. Just like, at one point in time, North Carolina says being Black is ok, but White people get a special water fountain.
